Muskulo skeletal system

The musculoskeletal system provides form, support, stability, and movement to the body. The human skeleton has 206 bones, which begin to develop before birth. When the skeleton first forms, it is made of flexible cartilage, but within a few weeks it begins the process of ossification. Ossification is when the cartilage is replaced by hard deposits of calcium phosphate and stretchy collagen, the two main components of bone. It takes about 20 years for this process to be completed. This system describes how bones are connected to other bones and muscle fibers via connective tissue such as tendons and ligaments. The bones provide the stability to a body in analogy to iron rods in concrete construction. Muscles keep bones in place and also play a role in movement of the bones. There are three types of muscles: skeletal, smooth, and cardiac (heart). Two of these kinds—skeletal and smooth—are part of the musculoskeletal system.
