Indication
Enteric fever, Influenza meningitis, anaerobic infections, Intraocular infections, urinary tract infections, Topically in conjunctivitis and external ear infections, For treatment of serious rickettsial infections, such as typhus or Rocky Mountain spotted fever.
Contra Indication
Hypersensitivity to chloramphenicol, pregnancy and lactation, large doses in neonates
Caution
Impaired renal or hepatic function, premature and full-term neonates. Monitor plasma concentrations to avoid toxicity.
Side Effect
Bone marrow depression, vascular reaction in subcutaneous tissues, anaphylaxis, hives, fever, vesicular and maculopapular dermatitis, Transient burning or stinging sensations in eyes, severe tiredness, aplastic anemia, Gray baby syndrome, ear toxicity.
