Indication
Mild to moderate pain and to relieve cough. Codeine is also used to treat diarrhea and diarrhea predominant irritable bowel syndrome.
Contra Indication
"Acute respiratory depression, paralytic ileus, conditions associated with raised intracranial pressure and head injury and convulsive disorders.

Caution
Hypothyroidism, adrenocortical insufficiency, asthma, impaired hepatic or renal function, prostatic hyperplasia, hypotension, shock, inflammatory or obstructive bowel disorders, myasthenia gravis. Infants, neonates, Reduce dose in elderly or debilitated patients. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Lactation.
Side Effect
Euphoria, itching, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dry mouth, miosis, orthostatic hypotension, urinary retention, depression, constipation and coughing.
